Mesothelioma Data

Study into the cancer mesothelioma began after the disease was first differentiated from other cancers. As data was compiled from studies related to mesothelioma, it became increasingly clear that for the most part asbestos was to blame for the disease. The amount of mesothelioma cases that did not appear to be caused by asbestos exposure number less than 10 percent of the total number of mesothelioma cases. It was clear from initial data that mesothelioma was a very rare cancer, but asbestos exposure could cause the development of mesothelioma cancer.

Further study has continued, spurred by continuing lawsuits related to the development of mesothelioma following exposure to asbestos. These new studies show that not only is the majority of mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure, it also shows that around 7% of those exposed to asbestos for a long period of time will eventually develop mesothelioma. This means that being exposed to asbestos significantly increases a person's chance of developing mesothelioma. Although no level of asbestos exposure is safe, the data from recent studies shows those who had minimal exposure or exposure to contained forms of asbestos have a much lower rate of developing mesothelioma.

What is most clear from studying available mesothelioma data is that the link between asbestos and mesothelioma cannot be refuted. This conclusion has become common logic and in many court cases previous exposure to asbestos is all that is necessary to prove mesothelioma was caused by asbestos exposure.
