Mesothelioma Compensation

Mesothelioma is a cancer that has been conclusively linked to exposure to asbestos and tends to present itself in older men, between the ages of 50-75 who worked with and around asbestos prior to its ban. In about 90% of all mesothelioma cancers, asbestos has been determined to be the cause. Because of the multitude of illnesses that have been linked to asbestos, the use of asbestos within the US was banned in almost all forms. Those who were exposed prior to the ban are just now developing mesothelioma as the symptoms of illnesses caused by asbestos exposure take decades to develop.

Courts have ruled that employers who knowingly exposed their employees to asbestos without providing them with proper protection are liable for the illnesses those employees have or will develop relating to mesothelioma. Currently, the world over, those who have been exposed to asbestos and later developed mesothelioma are receiving compensation for their loss of health, for medical expenses, for loss of income, and for physical and emotional pain. This amount of compensation varies from case to case and is in part determined by factors like employer's knowledge of health risks associated with asbestos, employer size, duration of exposure, as well as other factors.

Those who were exposed to asbestos during the course of their working day and later developed mesothelioma deserve compensation for their loss of health, medical expenses, and in many cases loss of income relating to illness.

Many law suits are filed on the behalf of a group of affected individuals. Known as a class action suit, the affected individuals in this group will split an award for negligence on behalf of the employer who exposed them to asbestos.
