Mesothelioma Best

Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer of the mesothelium, most commonly the plural mesothelium that often spreads to other organs quickly and can be extremely difficult to treat. The best possible prognosis for mesothelioma is in the cases of benign mesothelioma and can be complete recovery after a single surgery. Benign mesothelioma, unlike malignant mesothelioma, is usually isolated to a mass which grows between the plural layers of the mesothelium. In the best scenarios, it is even possible that the surgery to remove the tumor is minimally invasive; this aids in reducing recovery time.

Benign mesothelioma is diagnosed similarly to malignant varieties; first an x-ray is taken which shows a mass associated with the mesothelium. A MRI is then taken to get a better picture of how intrusive the mesothelioma mass is on the lungs or surrounding tissue. In the case of benign mesothelioma, there is usually a very well defined mass which sits on the outside of the lungs and is observed between the 2 layers of plural mesothelium. The best practice, now almost always observed, is for a biopsy to be performed which will determine if the mesothelioma is truly benign before a full procedure to remove the tumor is performed.

Benign mesothelioma is actually quite rare, it only accounts for about 10 percent of all mesothelioma cases. Seeing a doctor who has specific experience with mesothelioma can help to ensure that proper diagnosis is made and the best possible treatment options are made available to you.
